Xbox to Combat Used Games Market

If you hadn’t already heard, the Xbox One – Microsoft’s next console – was announced last Tuesday. For a while now there were rumors that the system might only work if it was online, or have some other fail safe that would restrict or altogether prohibit the use of used video games. Turns out the rumors weren’t far from the truth.
While a constant internet connection will not be required, installation of every game will be. If you don’t install the game, it won’t work. Each game will be registered with a person’s individual Xbox Live account upon being installed. If a second person wants to play the game off the same disk, they’ll have to pay a one-time fee.

Microsoft hasn’t gone into details regarding how this fee system works and how much it’ll cost to play used games, but people are already leaning more towards the PS4 after hearing the news. Many don’t believe it’ll stick and that Microsoft will discontinue charging a fee for used games once they see how much money they lose when customers run into Sony’s arms instead.
The story is still developing as we wait for more official word from Microsoft about how this is all going to work.
What do you think? Will this destroy Microsoft’s chances to dominate the next generation of consoles?
