Amritsar – City of Golden Temple


Amritsar is a spiritual center for Sikh religion and beautiful city located on the north-west part of India. The city is situated at a distance 135 miles from north-west boundary Chandigarh, India and 20 miles from east of Lahore, Pakistan so it is very close to Indo-Pak western Wagha Border.
However, Amritsar is highly acknowledge and recognized as spiritual and cultural center for Sikh religion as it homes Harmandir Sahib or better renowned as ‘Golden Temple’. It is an important Sikh’s place for pilgrimage that has attendance of more than 1,00,000 visitors during weekend which is actually much high in value than that of visitors at Taj Mahal. Amritsar also includes Sikh temporal, Akal Takht as well as political authority such as Sikh Parliament. Amritsar’s economy is built on tourism, farm products, light engineering, service trades, carpets and fabrics, etc. Moreover, the stuffs that make Amritsar special are its finger-licking good cuisine, diverse ethnicity and also known for the tragic incident at Jallianwala Bagh in 1919 under British rule.
