We've barely gotten ourselves comfortable with the visual wonders of 4K displays and already it's beginning to feel dated, no thanks to the recent announcement by the Video Electronics Standard Association (VESA) regarding their new Embedded DisplayPort 1.4a.
To summarize, the Embedded DisplayPort 1.4a is a new standard that will allow laptops and all-in-ones to sport eye-watering 8K resolution displays. Yes, you read that right, 8K displays. To give you an idea of what an 8K display would look like, imagine a Full HD (1920 x 1080) display being condensed with seven times more pixels, as an 8K display will have a resolution of 7680 x 4320.
This fancy new technology is by no means a rough concept, as according to VESA, we can expect to see their latest technology appearing in computers and mobile devices in 2016.
The big question now is whether we will actually be able to notice a substantial image quality improvement on these 8K displays – especially on the small screens of mobile devices – considering we're already having a hard time doing the same on devices with a Full HD display
