GHF, Peruvian Ministry of Culture Organize Major Conservation Training Workshop
“The work of the archaeologist is not only related to research, but also to the conservation of archaeological remains,” the Ministry of Culture wrote, announcing the event on its website. “The archaeologist does not work in isolation, but as part of a multidisciplinary team where each employee contributes his or her particular expertise in the process of preserving and protecting our cultural heritage.”
Today, there are many Peruvians working in conservation professionally, but relatively few of these individuals have had access to proper training. The Pachacamac workshop is therefore aimed at those who have already worked on archaeological sites and who can further benefit from expert advice.
The five-day program includes theoretical and practical sessions that will reinforce previous knowledge and encourage the need for multidisciplinary teams to achieve the best possible results. The speakers will each have different specialties, but they are united by their shared experience and passion for researching and preserving cultural heritage sites.
Through their experiences, participants will gain an understanding of the conservation process at archaeological sites around the world, including best practices based on international documents published by ICOMOS and UNESCO.
