The New Nikon 1 J2 Mirrorless Camera and Coolpix L610

Nikon 1 J2

The new Nikon 1 J2 Mirrorless Digital Camera features an improved, higher resolution 921,000 dot 3” (7.5 cm) LCD screen; a 10.1MP CX format, 13.2mm x 8.8mm AF CMOS image sensor with a crop factor of 2.7x; and it includes a Nikkor 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 lens that’s compatible with the camera’s Nikon 1 mount. In addition to being available in black, white, silver, red and pink, the new J2 is also available in orange. The Nikon 1 J2 is also available in a two-lens kit with the Nikkor 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 and the Nikkor VR 30-110mm f/3.8-5.6.

All of the design features that made the original Nikon 1 J1 a standout mirrorless camera system are still intact on the new model. The J2 is lightweight and compact, and its EXPEED 3 dual image processor enables the camera to perform with impressive speed. Plus, a new Creative Mode option on its rear mode dial offers eight different ways to take artistic shots.
The new Creative Mode on the J2 enables you to easily create panoramic shots either horizontally or vertically. It automatically detects the motion in which the camera is moving to create a horizontal or vertical frame. The Night Landscape mode simplifies the process of shooting at night by reducing blur and noise, and the Night Portrait mode combines images of the background and foreground with flash to deliver a more balanced rendering of the two. When you engage the camera’s HDR (high dynamic range) capability in the Backlighting Mode, the J2 will create a composite image of foreground and background to achieve optimal exposures of both. The Miniature Effect mode only keeps the center of the image in focus, creating a dreamy, miniaturized look. The Selective Color mode lets you to retain one color on an otherwise black-and-white image. The Soft Mode adds a hazy look to the entire image, and Exposure Mode supplies you with staples like Programmed Auto, Shutter-Priority Auto, Aperture-Priority Auto and Manual. The improved LCD screen lets you monitor all of these detailed modes with total clarity.

The interchangeable lens aspect of the Nikon 1 system enables you to explore different focal lengths, with the Nikkor VR 30-110mm f/3.8-5.6, the 10mm f/2.8, the video-friendly 10-100mm f/4.5-5.6 PD-ZOOM and the new 11-27.5mm f/3.5-5.6, which features a retractable lens mechanism to get as compact as possible and an angle of view that’s equivalent to a 30-74mm lens in the 35mm format. The 1 Nikkor lenses are available in different colors to match the body of your choice. You can also utilize F mount glass on the Nikon 1 J2 with the separately available FT1 Mount Adapter. The hybrid autofocusing capability of the Nikon 1 excels at keeping up with fast-moving subjects and continues to operate in low-light situations. When you’re shooting 1080p movies, you can still fire off stills while the video rolls. The J2 features an ISO sensitivity of 100 – 3200 and has an i-TTL built-in pop-up flash.
