Fujifilm Introduces Two New Lenses for the X-Pro 1
Fujifilm has recently announced two new lenses for its retro-styled
X-Pro 1 digital camera: An ultra wide-angle and a standard zoom lens.
These lenses join the ranks of three other Fujifilm XF lenses, all of
which have fixed focal lengths. In addition to these new lenses
providing greater versatility when working with the X-Pro1 camera, they
are also helping the entire system grow into a well-rounded option for
any shooting situation.
The lens design integrates visual focus distance and depth of field scales to help you apply selective focusing techniques; however, with such a broad angle of view, crucial focus is usually assured unless working very closely with subject matter. Even with the minimum focus distance of 7.1” (18 cm), the focal length of this lens will emphasize perspective while maintaining sharp focus from near-to-far, making this lens ideal for architectural and landscape applications.
Complementing the versatility of this lens even more, there is a linear motor-driven autofocus system for fast and precise focusing throughout the zoom range. The optical construction includes 14 elements in 10 groups and includes 3 aspherical elements and 1 abnormal dispersion element, which help to suppress flare and color anomalies across the range of focal lengths and increase sharpness and clarity.
Both of these lenses feature Fujifilm’s X mount for full compatibility with the X-Pro 1 digital camera. This new mount is specifically designed for achieving the widest aperture possible, while ensuring consistent illumination and sharpness from edge to edge. Each lens features all-glass elements and Fujinon’s Super EBC coating technology for high color fidelity and optical clarity.

Ultra Wide Angle 14mm f/2.8
The XF 14mm f/2.8 R lens is equivalent to a 21mm in 35mm format, providing you with an ultra-wide angle of view of 89°. This lens offers you the ability to capture close-up images with minimal distortion. The Fujinon optical construction includes 10 elements in 7 groups, including 2 aspherical lenses and 3 abnormal dispersion elements. This configuration improves sharpness and clarity, while reducing lens flare and ghosting. Consistent illumination across the entire image plane is another benefit from the aspherical and abnormal dispersion elements, which is especially crucial when working at larger apertures with such a wide focal length. The lens design integrates visual focus distance and depth of field scales to help you apply selective focusing techniques; however, with such a broad angle of view, crucial focus is usually assured unless working very closely with subject matter. Standard Zoom 18-55mm f/2.8-4.0
The XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 OIS lens is the first zoom lens made for the X-Pro 1 and has a focal length equivalent to 27.4-83.8mm in 35mm format. This range gives you the ability to capture standard wide angle to short telephoto shots, covering most general photographic situations. Supplementing this range of angles of view, OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) has been integrated into the design of this lens to help reduce the effects of camera shake, which become especially noticeable when working at longer focal lengths. While the lens does feature a relatively fast maximum aperture of f/2.8 at the wide end, the OIS will also provide a notable benefit when working in low-light conditions.Complementing the versatility of this lens even more, there is a linear motor-driven autofocus system for fast and precise focusing throughout the zoom range.
