BlackBerry’s BB10 handsets will feature HD screens
RIM is moving up with a 16:9, clear display for its BB10 device, but will it bring people around to remembering that Apples are not the only fruit?
BlackBerry has done a remarkable job of keeping most of the information around its BB10 devices secret but, in a bid to assist its third-party devs working with the BB10 Dev Alpha, RIM has released details of the screen resolutions for its new handsets.RIM will be releasing two new handsets: a full touch-screen device with a 16:9 ratio display running a 1280x720 resolution, and a more familiar-looking keyboard-sporting model with a display resolution of 720x720. For comparison, recall that the Bold 9900 has a resolution of 640x480.
This does of course mean that developers will have to struggle with making two versions of apps to fit both handsets – or that users opting for the keyboard device will need to cope with letter-boxing or something similar. That said, with an early 2013 release date, we hope devs will have enough time to create some truly killer apps and potentially get the world of smartphones back to being a four-horse race.
